●LOGO DESIGN● DAI 1 SHUFFLING

Logo and blog design for the ETSAM Madrid Achitecture School DAI 1 (Drawing Analyzing and Ideation One) class with professors Atxu Amann and Marta Maiz.
It's a long time I know Atxu and Marta and I have done many thing with them in the past but this year I was teacher assistant in their first year DAI 1 class that was centered on the shuffling dancing movement that was hitting hard at the time. We decided the best and most easy and open way for students to share their works with each other and with anyone interested outside the class as well as the most efficient for the teachers to track their work, was creating a blog. It's nothing fancy but it worked pretty well, I think.

●LOGO DESIGN● AA&NN

Design for the second logo for AA&NN, created using multiple fonts taken from inspirational  products and companies. This logo was used until 2013 when it was redesigned and simplified.
As AA&NN was yet undefined as a company we decided that by now it was good to play with the design of the companies that we liked. So we took the first A is from NASA, the next A from AUDI, another A this time from AKIRA. Then an N from NOKIA a D from iPod and finally two N's, the first one from NINTENDO and the second one from SONY.

●WEB DESIGN● AA&NN chronoBLOG

ChronoBLOG design and content creation. Html and CSS tinkering by Aaron Busca.
This blog is basically an on-line manifestation of the way I have been organizing my works and references for a long time in my analog and digital life. I started to visualize this project in a more clear way after the end of year 2007 when I founded AA&NN with my brother during the WEST OF THE MOON / EAST OF THE SUN project in Madrid Architecture School.

OPENING DAY POST

We are a little bit obsessed with having all kind of media organized and classified in AA&NN. The videos, books and the articles we consume everyday are a great source for inspiration and motivation in our projects, and for a long time we have been building a personal archive of everything we find interesting, in our personal hard drives.

Today we have decided to start blogging this kind of stuff instead of keeping it just for ourselves. At the same time, we thought it would be great to start building in parallel, a chronology of events that took place in our lives as well as projects we are working on. This way we would have a a broader view of where we come from and where we are going. In short; we will be blogging both, current and past date events and new and old projects and events.

We want this ChronoBLOG to be our ultimate archive where we would like to have everything we like in the Internet, accessible from anywhere, in an easy and a convenient way and shared it with everyone. Our hope is that many people can find inspiration with the stuff collected in here.

●PRODUCT & GRAPHIC DESIGN● SILESTONE + OTEIZA

590×840 mm
Digital Image
Ink jet printed paper over foam core board

Proposal submitted to Cosentino and Silestone's International ideas competition to make use of discarded parts of Silestone. Awarded with a mention.
The concept behind the proposal was, not only a tribute to Jorge Oteiza and to make small replicas of his well known 'Laboratorio de Tizas' (chalk laboratory) with parts of broken or used Silestone pieces, but to urge, specially the children, to play creating spacial figures an vacuum  with the malleable white chalk and why not, with the colorful small hard Silestone parts.

●CONCEPT DESIGN● SILESTONE MORUNO

2 boards
840×297mm
Digital Image
Ink jet printed paper over foam core board

Proposal submitted to 2011 Silestone international design competition organized by Cosentino and I+D+Art. The aim of the competition was to create a bar design using Silestone discarded material. Developed together with Roberto Garcia Fernandez.
The proposal consisted in using the Silestone boards one after another creating a colorful continuous surface inspired by a famous soda brand.

●WEB DESIGN● LainoMehe

LainoMehe web concept and design as well as translation of content. Html & CSS tinkering by Aaron Busca.
Launched in March 2011, this project went from various stages of design until the launch of its Frozeen page in August 2014. We conveniently accommodated there the translated comic works and we have continued using LainoMehe's website and its facebook page for more text centric entries and also, to post, link and share every time we translate to Basque and publish a new comic. A thing that happens less often than we would like.
WHAT IS LAINO MEHE?

How would the characters in our favorite comics talk if they spoke in Basque? LainoMehe was born in response to that question. If not to fight back the scarcity of comics in the Basque publishing scene, then to translate some chapters of our favorite authors and share them with basque readers.

We took the first steps in March 2011, adapting the basque version of Dragon Ball animation series that was broadcasted in the Basque TV to the original manga work. When we saw that they fit, we transcribed the first five chapters and posted them on a web we called: laino.me (light cloud). Although they were very successful in our circle of friends, it didn't seem good to us to keep on translating copyrighted content and even though we tried to find different ways of doing it correctly, we haven't found away to do it properly yet.

In November 2014, we refreshed our name and logo and went from laino.me to LainoMehe. We also got established in Frozeen comic publishing platform. First of all, we want to apologize to the authors and owners of the copyrights of the comics if this initiative seems wrong to them. The idea was to take a few works from each author, to have a sample of how they would look in basque, while we continue dreaming with a utopian Basque comic publishing scene. If this doesn't seem right to you, please get in touch with us and accept our apologies for the inconveniences.

Without further ado, if you don't want to miss the comics that we'll be translating from time to time, subscribe via email to this blog and follow us on facebook

LainoMehe members.

●VIDEO REPORT● IHAUTERIAK

IHAUTERIAK

Photographed and edited by Ioannes Busca
Captured on location in the streets of Oñati with Canon 550D
March 5, 2011

Video coverage of the traditional 'Ihauteriak' or carnival dances that are performed in Basque Country since time immemorial. This event that is celebrated once a year was in this ocassion organized by the 'Oñatz Dance Group' in the Oñati village and it reunited a grand amount of villagers that performed the traditional dances through the streets and plazas of the village from early in the morning to midnight.
It was really exhausting recording all this with a single camera.  I was running up and down the streets to make the best shots possible by myself, with camera on hand, with no tripod and even my camera is really light, by the end of the day my wrist fall apart. Then when I went back home and check for the clips I realized some had some audio issues due to the loud music. That and my already oldie HP6710b laptop make me leave the video unedited for a long time. It was not until I got an Apple Macbook Pro that I finished editing it. Definitively next time I have to find a real crew to do a work like this.

Video that coverages the first day of DAI 2 ( Drawing Analazyng and Ideation 2) class with professors Atxu Amann, Marta Maiz and Gonzalo Garcia Rosales on the Madrid Architecture School, ETSAM.
After six months outside the architecture school, I came back for the first days of classes of the second semester and my friends and professors Atxu Amann and Marta Maiz were there organizing a crazier than ever commencement class for DAI2. I was luckily there to shoot it and I end up editing this video featuring the awesome music composed composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for David Fincher's latest movie: The Social Network.

●TRIBUTE● REST IN PEACE SATOSHI KON

REST IN PEACE SATOSHI KON
2010 | Color | Digital Video | 4:3 | Stereo | 2min
Featuring Satoshi Kon (今 敏)
Photographed & edited by Ioannes Busca
Music from Millennium Actress by SUSUMU HIRASAWA
Captured in Animadrid Animation Festival in  2006

Tribute video to Satoshi kon (今 敏) the Japanese manga author and anime director that passed away on August 25, 2010. Kon is known for directing anime films such as Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and recently Paprika. He started his career as a manga author working with Katsuhiro Otomo with whom created World Apartment Horror. He is also known for the manga works such as  Kaikisen 'Return to the sea' and various short stories, all of them collected in various  books.
Meeting an anime director as relevant and busy as Satoshi Kon in person is something that you are lucky if happens to you once in a life time, and a privilege if you are not even living in Japan. Luckily Satoshi Kon accepted the invitation to this year's Animadrid and I had not only the opportunity to meet him, but also pick up one of his books I owned and ask for a signature. He did a beautiful drawing of Chiyoko in his book KON'S TONE. Today, four years later is sad to read that he passed away because of a cancer at the young age of 48; in the maturity of his creative career. I would never expect that. I guess, sometimes we think that the people we admire will live forever as their works will, but then the reality hits us every now and then. Rest In Peace Satoshi Kon.

Video submited and awarded with the first prize in the 'Solar Decathlon 2010 Madrid short film competition'.  Solar Decathlon is an event where universities from all over the world compete with the Solar Houses they have been working on, for years. Madrid was the reunion point for this year's event for the first time.
The organization of Solar Decathon promoted a video competition so Rodrigo Delso, Javier Argota and I, came up with a simple idea; we went on location to see what was happening there. Even the joke was funny and the execution pretty poor, we ended up winning the first prize.

Music video for the Torino based band Sweet Life Society.
My friend Luis Mesejo called me one afternoon asking for help in creating a bunch of  videos for Sweet Life Society so I help him out making one of them. I did the video the day the iPhone 4 was presented and as I was watching Job's key note,  I came up with the idea of using the factory footage featured on it. When you use quality footage the quality stands out.

●PRODUCT DESIGN● REGULERO STOOL

Video submitted to STOY 'Sustainable Toy' contest to propose ideas of toys that will be send to children in places where a situation of emergency has happened.
This was the third proposal presented to the STOY competition. I thought...What better than edible toy?, you can play a bit with it and once you get tired you can always eat it if you are hungry...

Video submitted to STOY 'Sustainable Toy' contest to propose ideas of toys that will be send to children in places where a situation of emergency has happened.
Rodrigo came up with this idea of reusing an old PC keyboard and transform it in a popular educative game 'cifras y letras' (numbers and letters). He turned apart all the pieces and painted vocals with one color and consonants with another, duplicating many of them. We din't have numbers so we call it 'teclas y letras' (keys and letters).  We belived that the game was perfect for children because keys stand in their place even if you shake the board, what make us thought that would be perfect for earthquake situations...

Javier Argota developed this idea of a dodecahedron as a puzzle that children could build with a rope followings the chronology of their actions throughout the day. Sleeping, eating, playing etc. The name is a mix of the words día (day) and Dodecaedro (dodecahedron).

FIX YOUR O.S.
2010 | Color | Digital Video | 16:9 | Stereo | Spanish | 3 min.
Photographed and edited by Ioannes Busca
shot with Sony DV Handycam in Madrid
March 2010

Video created for the GEP Experimental Projects Group class in the Madrid Architecture School, ETSAM.
We worked on a project for a couple of weeks together with students from the British AA School around the city of La Habana in Cuba, after their research of a whole semester. After an intense week of work, we concluded that the key point to start fixing the whole country was that the cuban citizens have to start fixing the windows of their houses, as a metaphor of fixing their operating system... In this video it came after that project, I thought that I had to do the same with my own life. Fix my O.S.

●POSTER DESIGN● IN&OUT CONTEST POSTER

594×1450 mm
Digital image and photography
Ink jet printed paper

Poster design to promote the first 'In & Out' contest to find new uses for the architectural concrete. This competition was organized by the Madrid Architecture School together with I+D+Art with the support of the leading concrete production companies in Spain: Indasa, Escofet, Preinco, Prehorquisa, Prainsa and Seis.

●TRIBUTE● ANDRÉS PEREA

TRIBUTO A ANDRÉS PEREA
2010 | Color | Digital Video | 4:3 | Stereo | 43 min
Featuring Adrés Pereas' friends and students
Directed by Miguel Beloqui
Edited by Guillermo Fernández, Iñigo Cornago, Ioannes Busca and Miguel Beloqui,
Madrid, February 17, 2010

Video directed by Miguel Beloqui to pay tribute to ETSAM professor and architect Andrés Perea.
Miguel Beloqui was in charge of making this tribute video, so once he collected all the videos from the people in various formats an qualities, we managed to find a way to merge them as a single unit. I had an old TV  and an old Apple powerbook laptop at home and Guillermo Fernandez had another old TV, so we three and Iñigo Cornago, met at my house and we edited this video. We had some good laughs!

●PRODUCT DESIGN● BEGIGORRI prototype

Working prototype
Polypropylene and electronics

Begigorri USB dongle
10×10×5cm
Working prototype
Polypropylene and electronics

Prototype case design for Begigorri, a project started by Aaron Busca inside AA&NN LAB born from the desire of wanting to improve upon the new functionalities of the Nintendo RVL-003 controller discovered by US researcher Johnny Chung Lee.
These two prototypes were created using plumbing plastic pieces as a tribute to Nintendo’s emblematic plumber brothers Mario and Luigi.

●POSTER DESIGN● SILESTONE CONTEST POSTER

500×700 mm
Digital Image
Ink jet printed on paper

Poster designed to promote the third edition of Silestone's International Idea Contest organized by I+D+Art & Cosentino
The competition was about reusing Silestone's discarded pieces and making something with them. I made a big exclamation mark out of Silestone's materials catalog that covered the poster entirely to draw the attention of people so they would read the contest rules and participate. They liked the idea so much that they made T-shirts with this design for this year and the upcoming years contest.

●LOGO DESIGN● AHABI

Name and logo design for Ahabi, the publishing division of AA&NN Ltd.
The design of the Ahabi logo is reminiscent of what its name represents, "ahabi" means blueberry in basque, language spoken in the Basque Country where the company was founded.

●MODEL DESIGN● PLAZA ECOPOLIS

700×150×50 mm aprox.
Cardboard and plastic

Model design for Ecosistema Urbano architects office for their latest project: Plaza Ecopolis. This working model was use during the building's development phase as part of a mayor project that aimed to regenerate a plot on the outskirts of Madrid, a place surrounded by transport infrastructure and adjacent to an industrial estate into  a public space for social interaction.
I met Jose Luis Vallejo in Madrid Architecture School where I was studying at the time when he was teaching there. When the semester ended he offered me a one month internship in his office developing this model that later became a real building.

●CONCEPT DESIGN● SIKA CONTEST ENTRY

1188×420 mm
Digital Image
Ink jet printed paper over foam core board

Proposal created in collaboration with Laura Currais and Pablo Muñoz, submitted to the 2009 SIKA Student Architectural Competition.
This years rules were to create a temporary basement in the Caiman islands and put there all the politicians of the world so that they would fix the economical crisis that we were suffering... so for a utopian proposal what better than  a hyper-realistic solution. Laura was from Vigo so we thought that the ship could be produced there creating lots of jobs in the area. Then it would go around the world picking up the politicians to finally settle down in the Caiman island we all together they would resolve all the worlds problems (?)...Then of course the ship woul be reused as a luxury transatlantic. We didn't have much time to createa a hyper-realistic looking drawing of a transatlantic so we just took an amazing drawing by Stephen Biesty from his Incredible Cross-Sections books and ripped it out. If we had won we would have send a check to Mr Biesty. But that, sadly, didn't happen.

●DVD DESIGN● ECOSISTEMA URBANO DVD

DVD design and authoring for Ecosistema Urbano's exhibition at II Biennial of the Canary Islands about Architecture, Art and Landscape. The exhibition took place from March 5th to May 3rd, 2009 in the Canary Islands in Spain.
I had a great time working with Iñigo Cornago creating the menus and introductory motion graphics for each of the ten videos collected in this DVD.
Official Site: http://www.bienaldecanarias.org/

●LOGO DESIGN● MMOT

Logo and name design for a partnership to between AA&NN and I+D+Art for a touchscreen proposal for he actúa UPM, an entrepreneurial organization part of the university for the promotion of new ideas and projects.
MMOT stands for 'Madrid Malaga Oñati Touch', the first three are the places of residence of the driving forces behind the project and 'Touch' refers to the project that consisted on a touch screen interface and was developed entirely y Aaron Busca and designed externally by me. We were awarded with a mention for the project idea and receive some special classes on how to create a company but we where not able to collect enough money to continue its development so MMOT disappeared after a few months of its creation.
To learn more about the device visit: https://aaandnn.com/lab/begigorri

●LOGO DESIGN● 9EUKT

Video recorded for the DAI 1 (Drawing, Analysing and Ideation 1) class with professor Atxu Amann in the Madrid Architecture School, ETSAM.
Atxu Amann asked me to record this action that the first year architecture students in DAI 1 class have been preparing for many weeks as a tribute to Javier Seguí, professor in the Ideation Department that is retiring soon. The performance consisted in picking one of the many small drawings Javier usually draws in his notebooks and translate it in to a huge matrix of 8 by 8 DIN-A0 size boards and dance with them.

Starring Mrs. Google
concept & editing by Ioannes Busca
Recorded in Madrid
October 2008

Video created for a workshop organized by Ecosistema Urbano architects in Matadero, Madrid where ideas and proposals to build a better city were discussed.
I thought it would be cool to confront the opinions of a randomly chosen woman's at the street with the first results given by google at the same time, at the same place.

●LOGO DESIGN● EYCA

Logo submitted to the EYCA, European Youth Card international competition.
The previous EYCA logo was Hercules with European stars around, so I thought it would be fun to simplify and just take a curly hair of his head as a logo.
