●COVER DESIGN● COEN BROTHERS BOX

Cover design for a set of two 8-disc boxes that collect the 16 feature films directed by the Coen Brothers.
It's a shame how most of the DVDs and Blu-ray discs released nowadays are presented in cheap plastic cases with huge holes, no booklets and many times horrible cover art. We already owned many of the Coen brother's movies on blu-ray so I thought it would be great to complete their filmography in a more convenient way. I chose the affordable  Viva Elite 8 disc boxes to fit the 16 films the Coen's have directed to this day. I've organized them chronologically and for the cover art I used the original movie posters and rewrote the credits included in therein, so they could be readable. The two boxes together measure just the same as four single disc boxes so shelve space is not wasted and there is nothing to miss, because the films didn't come with any kind of special booklets or cool cover artwork.

●ILLUSTRATION● OÑATIKO JAIXAK 2015

Illustration for a 50x70cm poster presented for the cover of the activity program of the San Miguel festivities in Oñati. Not selected.
This was a sketch of a  short story about  'Txorimaloak', the bigheaded carnival  figures that follow the kids around the town during the festivities, I hope to finish it one of this days.

●LOGO DESIGN● FROZEEN

Name and logo design for Frozeen, a digital comics publishing platform developed by AA&NN.

●LOGO DESIGN● LAINO MEHE

New Logo design for Laino Mehe, a comunity of comic enthusiasts from Basque Country who's will is to inform about new publications in Basque language as well as translate classics works to this minority language in which very few comics are published.
'Laino Mehe' means 'Thin Cloud' in Basque so I couldn't though in none other than the most famous cloud in comics history, even it's pretty thick. I hope Laino Mehe grows thicker everyday.

●ILLUSTRATION● KALEBLOK

Front and back illustration of a T-shirt for KALEBLOK, an urban climbers community from Oñati.
KALEBLOK is a group of climbers that once a year go hangout on the streets of Oñati and climb in the walls and balconies along the streets. That is what they've told me they do because I've never seen them in action. Their motto in basque is "Siñistu ta Txipittu" that means Believe and Destroy. The t-shirts were silk screen printed.

●WEB DESIGN● FROZEEN alpha

FROZEEN.COM web concept and design. Developed by Aaron Busca.
I was looking for a way to publish my comics on the Internet. I didn't like social media platforms too much and I couldn't find a proper blog template to do what I had in mind. I wanted to show my comics in multiple languages and read them on displays of any size from small to big. Then, my brother was able to majestically develop this idea that was spinning in my head: A platform for publishers and artist to publish their comics. For the time being, I use this alpha version to share Ian Nose's my comics and a side project Laino Mehe. Hopefully one day we will be able to launch it so that anybody can make a good use of it!

●LOGO DESIGN● AZAAR BAZAAR

Logo and name design for the Amazon Marketplace & eBay online store Azaar Bazaar.
The expression of the guy in the logo represents the happiness of having sold something and making someone happy as well as receiving money for that. The tear coming out from the guys eye represents the sadness when you let go something that you like just because you need the money. If you realize the two eyes and the nose are made with an 'R' an 'L' and a 'P' meaning 'Random Limited Products' as this is primarily a used stuff store with limited availability of a diversity of products.

●WEB DESIGN● ChronOtomo: Otomo Katsuhiro Chronology

ChronOtomo project and web, concept and design. HTML and CSS tinkering by Aaron Busca.
This project started just a year ago with ChronOtomo: Katsuhiro Otomo Chronology facebook page.   During this time, we have realized that this platform wasn't the most appropriate for this kind of project. Today we launched the website version. For the past year we have been collecting and publishing as much information about Katsuhiro Otomo's works as we could, and despite we are still a long way from completion, we've already published more than 500 posts and 700 images. All this material is now collected in ChronOtomo: Katsuhiro Otomo Chronology in a more convenient way, making use of links and tags so that the exploration of the many books and illustrations is much more pleasing.

ABOUT

Katsuhiro Otomo (大友克洋) tribute page that highlights his works and publications chronologically. Born on April 14, 1954 in Miyagi, Japan, Katsuhiro Otomo made his debut as a manga artist in 1973 with Jūsei and for over almost half a century to this day, he has created thousands of manga pages, illustrated essays, and illustrations. He has also directed worldwide renown animated and live action films.

●LOGO DESIGN● AA&NN

Logo re-design for AA&NN.
We realized that when AA-AND-NN is written, it makes the already confusing and hard to spell name hard to recognize at a glance, so we thought it needed to be changed; this time we made use of the '&'  and replaced the typography  so that the overall logo had a much cleaner look.

We were playing some basketball that afternoon and recording ourselves with a cell phone trying to dunk  when Jhalon, that always has a funny story to tell up his sleeve, improvised this. He is a natural born story teller. I always tell he him that he should pursue a performing career.

The only rule the teacher gave us this time was that it had to be one continuous shot. No cuts. Thanks must be given to all the friends that featured on it for helping us, specially to the two main actors.

I think the only rule we had when shooting this video was to keep it simple. But I really don't remember how we end up doing this. We improvised a lot, as usual.

●INTERVIEW● Retratos en Bici

Inteview by Pablo León for his I LOVE BICIS blog in El País newspaper. Foto by Moeh Atitar.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Ioannes likes cinema and video editing more than structures. He came to Madrid from Oñati (Gipuzkoa) in 2003 to study architecture. He is living with his cousin in Leganés, to save expenses, and travels every day to the capital. “I made a calculation on how much I expended per month in transportation. My travel expenses were 70€. The one-month train travel pass cost me 30€. The other 40€ were the metro pass to conmute from Prinicipe Pío to the university. I decided to save those 40€ and buy a bike by installments instead ”, he tells from the patio of the university mounted on his BMX. Thus, in July 2011 he bought his small BMX. If he would do that calculation now,  he would choose to switch to the wheels even faster.

Pedaling on a BMX is not easy. The short distance between the saddle and the pedals makes it necessary to stand up most of the time. “These bikes were mythical when I was a kid. In my town we called them "Motoretas" and they seemed super cool to us; I haven't ridden in one since I was 11, ” he exclaims, staring blankly into his school cafeteria. His technique is based on pedaling and sliding; on the slopes he makes legs, climbs to the top and then lets himself go. “It is a different bike. I don't know if I would recommend it but right now I wouldn't change it ”, he admits.

Seven installments of his travel pass made Ioannes the owner of his BMX. “I use it for short distances. At first, I didn't feel like going between cars and I was on the sidewalk, ” he says. But after a while, Madrid's traffic did not seem as chaotic as that of Mexico D.F. where he spent six months studying. The volume of cars in the capital of the North American country is not comparable to that of Madrid. "There, despite the distances and the saturation of cars, many people dare to ride a bicycle," he recalls as he looks back at infinity.

Retratos en Bici 'Portraits in bikes'  is a section of I LOVE BICIS that wants to reflect the diversity, in images, of cyclists in Madrid. Moeh Atitar, a fellow El País journalist and photographer, carries the camera. The idea for the section came after the interview with Dmitri Gudkov, a photographer based in New York, who, in February 2010, began a series of portraits of citizens of the North American city with his bike. He gives each image the hashtag #BikeNYC. This is, with our style, #BikeMAD.

Performance shot in the ETSAM architecture school in Madrid with the first year students class of DAI  2 (Drawing Analyzing and Ideation 2) with professor Atxu Amann, submitted to the contest 'Video Talentos' organized by Fundacion Banco Santander and OpenBank.
That was my second semester as teacher assistant with professor Atxu Amann and among the multiple things we did during that semester, one of the coolest was this contest entry developed by the whole class based upon an idea by Inés Sell that was previously selected by popular vote. I don't really know how close the final video is to what she had in mind. Even we had 5 or 6 cameras recording the performance the final footage was terrible, but somehow we manage to make a video out of it.

●LOGO DESIGN● DAI 1 SHUFFLING

Logo and blog design for the ETSAM Madrid Achitecture School DAI 1 (Drawing Analyzing and Ideation One) class with professors Atxu Amann and Marta Maiz.
It's a long time I know Atxu and Marta and I have done many thing with them in the past but this year I was teacher assistant in their first year DAI 1 class that was centered on the shuffling dancing movement that was hitting hard at the time. We decided the best and most easy and open way for students to share their works with each other and with anyone interested outside the class as well as the most efficient for the teachers to track their work, was creating a blog. It's nothing fancy but it worked pretty well, I think.

●LOGO DESIGN● AA&NN

Design for the second logo for AA&NN, created using multiple fonts taken from inspirational  products and companies. This logo was used until 2013 when it was redesigned and simplified.
As AA&NN was yet undefined as a company we decided that by now it was good to play with the design of the companies that we liked. So we took the first A is from NASA, the next A from AUDI, another A this time from AKIRA. Then an N from NOKIA a D from iPod and finally two N's, the first one from NINTENDO and the second one from SONY.

●WEB DESIGN● AA&NN chronoBLOG

ChronoBLOG design and content creation. Html and CSS tinkering by Aaron Busca.
This blog is basically an on-line manifestation of the way I have been organizing my works and references for a long time in my analog and digital life. I started to visualize this project in a more clear way after the end of year 2007 when I founded AA&NN with my brother during the WEST OF THE MOON / EAST OF THE SUN project in Madrid Architecture School.

OPENING DAY POST

We are a little bit obsessed with having all kind of media organized and classified in AA&NN. The videos, books and the articles we consume everyday are a great source for inspiration and motivation in our projects, and for a long time we have been building a personal archive of everything we find interesting, in our personal hard drives.

Today we have decided to start blogging this kind of stuff instead of keeping it just for ourselves. At the same time, we thought it would be great to start building in parallel, a chronology of events that took place in our lives as well as projects we are working on. This way we would have a a broader view of where we come from and where we are going. In short; we will be blogging both, current and past date events and new and old projects and events.

We want this ChronoBLOG to be our ultimate archive where we would like to have everything we like in the Internet, accessible from anywhere, in an easy and a convenient way and shared it with everyone. Our hope is that many people can find inspiration with the stuff collected in here.

●PRODUCT & GRAPHIC DESIGN● SILESTONE + OTEIZA

590×840 mm
Digital Image
Ink jet printed paper over foam core board

Proposal submitted to Cosentino and Silestone's International ideas competition to make use of discarded parts of Silestone. Awarded with a mention.
The concept behind the proposal was, not only a tribute to Jorge Oteiza and to make small replicas of his well known 'Laboratorio de Tizas' (chalk laboratory) with parts of broken or used Silestone pieces, but to urge, specially the children, to play creating spacial figures an vacuum  with the malleable white chalk and why not, with the colorful small hard Silestone parts.

●CONCEPT DESIGN● SILESTONE MORUNO

2 boards
840×297mm
Digital Image
Ink jet printed paper over foam core board

Proposal submitted to 2011 Silestone international design competition organized by Cosentino and I+D+Art. The aim of the competition was to create a bar design using Silestone discarded material. Developed together with Roberto Garcia Fernandez.
The proposal consisted in using the Silestone boards one after another creating a colorful continuous surface inspired by a famous soda brand.

●WEB DESIGN● LainoMehe

LainoMehe web concept and design as well as translation of content. Html & CSS tinkering by Aaron Busca.
Launched in March 2011, this project went from various stages of design until the launch of its Frozeen page in August 2014. We conveniently accommodated there the translated comic works and we have continued using LainoMehe's website and its facebook page for more text centric entries and also, to post, link and share every time we translate to Basque and publish a new comic. A thing that happens less often than we would like.
WHAT IS LAINO MEHE?

How would the characters in our favorite comics talk if they spoke in Basque? LainoMehe was born in response to that question. If not to fight back the scarcity of comics in the Basque publishing scene, then to translate some chapters of our favorite authors and share them with basque readers.

We took the first steps in March 2011, adapting the basque version of Dragon Ball animation series that was broadcasted in the Basque TV to the original manga work. When we saw that they fit, we transcribed the first five chapters and posted them on a web we called: laino.me (light cloud). Although they were very successful in our circle of friends, it didn't seem good to us to keep on translating copyrighted content and even though we tried to find different ways of doing it correctly, we haven't found away to do it properly yet.

In November 2014, we refreshed our name and logo and went from laino.me to LainoMehe. We also got established in Frozeen comic publishing platform. First of all, we want to apologize to the authors and owners of the copyrights of the comics if this initiative seems wrong to them. The idea was to take a few works from each author, to have a sample of how they would look in basque, while we continue dreaming with a utopian Basque comic publishing scene. If this doesn't seem right to you, please get in touch with us and accept our apologies for the inconveniences.

Without further ado, if you don't want to miss the comics that we'll be translating from time to time, subscribe via email to this blog and follow us on facebook
